History Collection


The Haywood County History Collection is a body of photos and documents from the history of Haywood County. Begun as a contribution to a centennial book marking the 200th birthday of Haywood County, this remarkable collection is available to the citizens of Haywood County here. We hope you enjoy this glimpse into our mountain region's colorful history.

Favorite Spring Wildflowers of the Blue Ridge Mountains  •  Tuesday, March 22  •  1 p.m.  •  Waynesville Library Local author and botanist Timothy Spira will present a program on the best places to see wildflowers in the surrounding mountains. Resume Writing Workshop  •  Wednesday, March 23  •  10 a.m.  •  Canton Library   Goodwill Career Connections is helping the library run a series of workshops designed to help you find and get a job.  During this session, you will learn how to create a fabulous resume, market yourself with your resume, and the importance of a cover letter.  If you have a laptop or tablet, please bring them so you can work on or create your resume as we go. Please call Kristy at 828-648-2924 or e-mail her at aksartain@haywoodnc.net to sign up to attend this session.  

Gaming Hour  •  Wednesday, March 23  •  4 p.m.  •  Canton Library   Games, food, and fun! We'll have the Wii with Mario Kart and Wii Sports, our smartboard, ipads, and board games. Play one of our games or bring your own. From 4:00 to 5:00 or until the games end! All ages welcome.

Library Easter Egg Hunt •  Thursday, March 24 •  4 p.m.  •  Waynesville Library The Library will be hosting an Easter Egg Hunt for all ages. Weather permitting we will do the hunt on the library grounds. In case of inclement weather it will be held inside the library. Stitch  • Sunday, April 3  • 2:30 p.m.  • Canton Library  Do you knit, crochet, or do needlepoint? Square Foot Gardening • Wednesday, April 6 • 2 p.m. • Waynesville Library Learn how to grow lots of vegetables in a small space with this unique and versatile gardening technique. Friends of the Library Concert Series: The Lightnin' Bugs • Saturday, April 9 • 3 p.m. • Waynesville Library The Lightnin' Bugs are an Americana ensemble fronted by Asheville couple Jenny and Jason Martin. All concerts are brought to you free of charge through the Haywood County Arts Council thanks to the Friends of the Library.

Family Movie  • Sunday, April 10  • 2 p.m.  • Canton Library  Bring snacks and enjoy a screening of a family-friendly movie on the big screen (Rated G or PG).  We will be showing a different movie on the second Sunday each month. Planting with Kids  • Tuesday, April 12  • 10:30 a.m.  • Canton Library  A special family story time that will focus on gardening.  Children will be building a tee-pee for bean plants in the Giving Garden and planting their own plant to take home.  Presented by Mike Roberson, Mary Decker, and Marcia Tate.
